What’s a Job Seeking Youngster To Do When California Teen Unemployment is a Whopping 33%?

by Blaire Kilbey

We all know it’s been tough economically for all sectors of the population.   But what is it like for a teenager, many who have never had a job to spice up a résumé or the opportunity collect glowing letters of recommendation?

Help and plenty of advice is out there. In April 2010, Cuesta College, EDD and the Business and Career One-Stop centers in San Luis Obispo County are hosting three Youth Job and Resource Fairs in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and Grover Beach.  The target age is 16-24.

Local employers will be on hand to offer advise on what they expect, how to fill out an application, what is appropriate interviewing attire and behavior (what do you do with that vibrating cell phone?). Other topics useful to youth, and available jobs and careers can also be researched.  Employers will answer questions to inspire, encourage, and build confidence during these competitive and sometimes daunting times.

The first Youth Job and Resource Fair is Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 5-7 pm at the SLO Business and Career One-Stop on 880 Industrial Way, off of Broad across from the Graduate. (805.903.1434)

The next two are both on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 5-7 pm. In South County, the Grover Beach Business and Career One -Stop is at 1800 E. Grand (805.270.3100). In North County, the Paso Robles Business and Career One-Stop is at Cuesta College North Campus, 2800 Buena Vista (805.237.3014).

Youth are invited to learn about the wonderful resources for job seekers at the Business and Career One-Stop centers, get that confidence needed to grab that interview and enjoy light refreshments!  Please call the above numbers for further information and visit Career One-Stop at SLO-ONESTOP.NET.

San Francisco Zoo updates their x-ray films to high quality digital images.

San Luis Obispo, CA — Vetel Diagnostics, a leading provider of digital diagnostic imaging systems to veterinarians installed their EmpowerEQ Wireless DR system at the San Francisco Zoo. The SF Zoo converted from x-ray film to DR as it continually improves the technology and treatment of their 693 animals, ranging from endangered snow leopards to a 3,000 pound black rhinocerous.

Vetel’s Wireless DR system allows the zoo’s veterinarians and technicians flexibility and added care in treating their animals. Previously, with film x-rays, it proved unfeasible to capture and sedate an animal, take film shots, run the film cassettes back to a processor, wait 15 minutes for verification of a clear image, and re-take if necessary. With Vetel’s Wireless DR System the SF Zoo staff has the capability to take images in the animals’ enclosures and exposing the images in less than 9 seconds. This also gives them the ability to take images of animals that were previously too large or logistically unfeasible to move.

Vetel Diagnostic’s Engineer Michael Brurst mentioned at installation that “The most impressive thing to me is the quality of the image. The images really speak for themselves. The wireless panel is a mature system that has well developed image algorithms and good track record for reliability.” The wireless panel uses 64,000 shades of gray, stores up to 10,500 images and features a multi-planar bone density analysis -analyzing up to four areas at a time. “As far as what other vets should know: just try it. It’s not as scary or hard to use as you’d think and the benefits are numerous. Seeing how things are done with a DR system, I couldn’t imagine ever going back to film.”

Vetel Diagnostics’ product line includes digital radiography systems for equine and companion animals, as well as thermal imaging and ultrasound products. All digital radiography systems from Vetel Diagnostics combine the highest quality components with the industry’s most user-friendly and accurate software.

In the clinic or in the field, Vetel Diagnostics offers the largest variety of state-of-the-art products, 24-hour support, and expertise to help veterinarians. Their headquarters are located at 4850 Davenport Creek Road in San Luis Obispo, CA and they can be reached at (800) 458-8890 or www.veteldiagnostics.com.

VETEL DIAGNOSTICS OFFERS REVOLUTIONARY PORTABLE ULTRASOUND SYSTEM

ZONARE® medical systems develops ultrasound solutions with premium image quality, performance and ease of use

San Luis Obispo, CA — Vetel Diagnostics, a leading provider of digital radiology systems to veterinarians is offering ZONARE®’S z.one Scan Engine ultrasound system. This is the world’s first portable ultrasound system that easily converts the z.one system from a compact, 5.5 pound hand carried system to an optional cart-based system. The Scan Engine features the performance of a larger and more expensive system with portability and flexibility, without sacrificing image quality.

ZONARE’s proprietary technology is an entirely new approach to ultrasound data acquisition and image formation. Instead of information being captured conventionally: line-by-line, Zone Sonography™ technology captures zones of information, at one-tenth the time.

ZONARE is revolutionary in the industry as it delivers innovative, technology driven software-versus hardware. The Scan Engine has unlimited scalability, rendering the system economical and countinuosly state-of-the art. Vetel founder Jim Waldsmith, DVM explains that “traditional systems need to be updated every 5 to 7 years – a costly expense. But z.one Scan Engine systems’ software upgrades can be downloaded over the internet—a cost effective way to stay current with the latest innovations. There’s no need to ever purchase hardware again.”

The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal announced that ZONARE is ranked the third fastest growing company in Silicon Valley, with a growth of 688 percent from 2006-2008. This marks the second straight year it was ranked in the top three.

The z.one Scan Engine and optional docking carts are the latest additions to Vetel Diagnostics’ product line, which includes digital radiography systems for equine and companion animals, as well as thermal imaging products. All digital radiography systems from Vetel Diagnostics combine the highest quality components with the industry’s most user-friendly and accurate software.
