Workplace Gratitude – For The Boss Too?

“Gratitude” has been defined as an attitude, a virtue, or a character strength. While the concept of gratitude frequently appears in literature, prayers, and spiritual lessons, its application in the organizational setting is not as common.  Most of what is written on workplace gratitude is geared toward peers or as a way for employers to boost employee morale.  But what about the boss?

How often have you thanked your employer?  Not the “thank you for answering my question” or “thank you for getting me a cup of coffee” thanks, but rather the showing of genuine appreciation.

Lately everyone is doing more and getting less, and the boss is no exception.  They take the financial risk in hope it will pay off and they creates jobs.  They also have the added responsibility of providing for their employees.  I’ve never met a small business owner who didn’t feel protective about their staff.

When you think about your work relationships, don’t forget the boss.  Afterall, many people spend more waking time with their colleagues at work than with their families.  So to my each and every employer, past, present and future, my sincere thanks and appreciation!
